The Dow Chemical Company?s Human Resources Organization has an exciting and challenging position for an HR Generalist, located in Johannesburg.? This role provides value to the clients and the organization by anticipating clients? needs and integrating and leveraging HR work processes and services to meet those needs. The HR generalist partners with HR technology colleagues to implement the necessary initiatives that support the site?s people components of their Strategies and Plans.

Primary Responsibilities

All hiring activities from start to end of hiring process, including all on-boarding activities

Separations & all related off-boarding activities

Promotions

Administration of medical aid & retirement fund changes

Co-ordination & participation in union meetings

Conducting disciplinary hearings & employee counseling sessions

Monitoring of sick leave & conducting medical reviews in conjunction with the Health Services department.

Co-ordination of monthly payroll input including overtime, leave & allowances

Facilitation of Employee Review Committees?
General HR administration?
Driving various adhoc HR projects

Critical Success Factors:

Ability to leverage across multiple sites.
Educate and provide council to leadership and employees on application of HR policies and work processes.
Manage the change process to influence and shape the desired culture.
Provide an interface between HR work processes and clients to ensure process integrity and flexibility to advantage clients.
Partner with HR Service and leaders (business and functional) ensuring seamless HR communication and service to the client group. Particularly critical for strategic HR issues impacting the HR Service leader?s ability to consult at high levels in their organization.
Educate and Provide counsel to leadership and employees applicable employment laws and legislated requirements with respect to human resources.
Ensure successful local implementation and application of HR policies and programs. May include development and implementation of local policies and procedures that are aligned with global HR policies and work processes.
Coordinate responses to critical data requests.

Qualifications

Degree or diploma in Human Resources or Industrial Psychology
Minimum 5 years of experience as an HR Generalist
Good interpersonal skills, including but not limited to conflict resolution, listening, influencing and negotiation skills
Good team player with excellent communication and presentation skills
Strong analytical skills and able to make recommendations to senior management
Fluency in English and one other South African language (written and spoken)
Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and HRIS
Ability to both relate to and communicate with a wide variety of people and cultures while upholding a high level of integrity, ethics and trustworthiness
Outstanding analytical and decision making skills
Ability to build relationships with clients through expertise and consultation
Ability to be both an employee advocate and represent leadership
Possess knowledge of local labor policies, laws and legislation
Ability to analyze data and situations, make recommendations and assist with implementation
Ability to manage multiple priorities along with special projects
Strong facilitation and presentation skills
Valid driver?s license and vehicle
