A Few Interesting Information Relating to Body Piercings

To make a daring declaration with marginal effort, body piercings are the strategy to use. Special, amazing, and badass are some words you can easily connect with individuals who have piercings in unlikely areas of their body.

If somebody informed you that having body piercings is just a means to grab interest, have them read the succeeding paragraphs and convince them alternatively.

Ear piercings

Ear piercing is the earliest, most common, and simplest to conduct. Otzi, Europe's most ancient natural human mummy, was discovered with pierced ears. Several tribes thought that evil spirits got in the body via the ear, so steel earrings were necessary to get rid of these spirits. Both genders exercise ear piercing nowadays, though it's not considered especially masculine in several segments of society.

Navel piercings

The navel is commonly considered as an erogenous zone, and piercings in this part emphasized this. Clothing that showed off the navel, like the swimwear, became favored only in the 1950s; hence, navel piercings are among the more current types of piercing. Trendsetting stars like Madonna upped the level of popularity of navel piercings more.

Lip piercings

In Mayan and Aztec cultures, just high-caste men used labret piercings. These were constructed from pure gold, fashioned like serpents, and mounted with gemstones similar to jade. These days, you'll find labrets in African tribes; the Dogon people, for instance, believe that labrets stood for exactly how their ancestor spirit, Noomi, created the world with her teeth. Furthermore, the women of the Makololo tribe in Malawi used lip piercings for charm.

Nose piercings

If you want to emphasize your wonderful nose, you can easily get a nose piercing. These piercings are roughly as old as earrings; for example, in the Old Testament, Abraham provided Rebekah, his future daughter-in-law, a Shanf, which is Hebrew for "nose-ring". In nomadic tribes such as the Bedouin of the Middle East, males provided nose rings to their brides as presents. The nose rings' size was related to a male's wealth, while the wife can make use of these as security if they're separated.

Tongue piercings

With a tongue piercing, you can easily astound your pals into fits of frivolity by simply saying "Aah!" Certain civilizations like the Aztec that counted on human sacrifice to please their gods pierced tongues to draw blood. Meanwhile, stars such as the Spice Girls' Mel B and Janet Jackson wore tongue piercings.

Facial piercings, like an eyebrow piercing above one or both eyes, can highlight your best features. Likewise, you can celebrate your sexuality and everything that's attractive about your body with piercings on areas from your chin downwards. Jason Kenny sets new Olympic record in sprint ... - BBC World News

Team GB cyclist Jason Kenny has broken the Olympic record to progress to the next round of the men?s sprint event. Jason Kenny has got off to a flying start (Picture: PA) Kenny, who has already tasted gold in the team event, has earned a bye into the round of 16 as a result of his time of 9.713 ? the fastest of the session. Kenny?s technique was near perfect as he hardly got out of the saddle to get his gold medal surge off to the perfect start in the velodrome at the Olympic Park. His form goes some way to justify his selection for the event ahead of Britain?s most successful ever Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy. World champion Gregory Bauge of France finished second in a time 9.952 seconds, while Australian Shane Perkins was third fastest. Kenny won the team sprint alongside Hoy, who had previously held the Olympic record, and Philip Hindes. Kenny will be back in action in the 1/8 final at 4.35pm. Team GB?s Laura Trott, Dani King and Joanna Rowsell will be hoping to finish in the medals in the women?s team pursuit event later today. PICTURES: Track cycling day 2

I just love this photo of my momma and all her brothers and sisters. My momma Jean Mae Bader is the girl in the back row.

You can use the Heritage Charm Collection to create this layout or I have a Heritage Charm Plopper 2 to make a fast and easy Heritage Page

The poem reads:
A family
is made of love and tears
laughter and years
It grows stronger
with the passing of time
More precious
with the making of memories
sometimes a family is made of ones
you don't like for a while and fight with a lot
But you love them for a life time
Not in numbers but in its capacity to love
It's the place you find
someone to encourage you
believe in you
Celebrate with you and comfort you
A family is where your heart
feels most at home because you're
Always wanted always welcomed
Always needed
Always Loved

Facebook's Fakery Problem: 83 Million Phony Accounts

Several years ago, I created a Facebook profile for my friend's cat. The same friend created a profile for a bizarro evil version of me.

College kids putting inside jokes on the Internet?no surprise there. And you've probably heard of or come across fake Facebook profiles based on fictional characters or historical figures. But what's funny to Facebook users could turn out to be a headache for Facebook.

The Social Network announced today that 8.7% of its 955 million active accounts are phony. That's about 83 million accounts, if you're scoring at home. Most of them (4.8% of all profiles) are second accounts belonging to people who already have a primary Facebook account. "User-misclassified accounts amounted to 2.4%?including personal profiles for businesses or pets," the BBC says. And 1.5% of all Facebook accounts are what the company ominously describes as "undesirable," those being nefarious accounts that flout Facebook's rules or spam other users.

The fact that Facebook has 872 million users rather than 955 million doesn't sound like such a big deal until you consider Facebook's money woes dating back its initial public offering in May and deflating performance since then. And the company's admission of millions of fake accounts wasn't its only bad news this week. Reports also surfaced that those Facebook bots are wreaking havoc on the site's ad-supported business. A company called Limited Pressing says that its investigation found 80 percent of clicks on Facebook ads came from spambots.

Don't feel too bad, Facebook. Twitter is glutted with spam, too.

FAA: 3 jets near DC were never on collision course

(AP Photo/Susan Walsh)

(AP) ? None of the commuter jets that flew too close together near Washington was ever on course to collide head-on with the others, federal officials said Thursday.

During a news conference, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood strongly disputed media reports characterizing the incident as a near-miss.

"At no point were the three aircraft on a head-to-head course. They were not on a collision course," said Michael Huerta, administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration.

The incident happened Tuesday because of a miscommunication between a manager at Potomac Consolidated Terminal Radar Approach Control and two traffic management coordinators at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Huerta said. Officials are investigating. The exact nature of the miscommunication was not immediately clear, but there was apparently a failure on both ends to follow standard procedure.

The mishap happened at a time when traffic controllers had been changing the direction planes were landing and taking off at the airport because of bad weather including several thunderstorms, the closest about 6 miles south.

Both LaHood and Huerta praised the work of air traffic controllers to quickly set the US Airways planes on another path once they learned they were too close together. Huerta said the planes were on different headings at different altitudes and thus never would have crashed.

All of the planes were equipped with collision avoidance systems, but none was activated by the incident, Huerta said.

When asked by a reporter, LaHood refused to discuss what may have happened if the planes had not been diverted by the air traffic controller.

Federal guidelines require that commercial jets remain separated by at least 1,000 vertical feet and 3.5 lateral miles.

The agency said the landing plane, which departed from Portland, Maine, came within 800 vertical feet and about nine-tenths of a lateral mile of one departing plane and 800 vertical feet and 2.4 lateral miles of the second plane. The other planes had been departing for Kansas City and Columbus, Ohio.

In fiscal year 2010, the latest year for which statistics were available, the FAA recorded 1,887 operational errors, which the agency defines as a "situation in which an air traffic controller fails to maintain a safe distance between two or more aircraft, in the air or on the ground, or a safe distance from terrain, obstructions and certain airspace not designated for routine air travel." That was an increase from fiscal year 2009, in which the FAA recorded 1,234 such errors.

An audio recording of communications between the landing plane and the air traffic control tower at the airport shows confusion as the flight is given instructions on landing.

"We were clear at the river back there. What happened?" someone in the plane's cockpit says on the recording, obtained from LiveATC.com, a website that records air traffic communications.

The tower responds: "We're trying to figure this out, too. Stand by."

The landing flight then advises the tower that the plane doesn't have much fuel left: "We gotta get on the ground here pretty quick," a man says.

US Airways spokesman Todd Lehmacher said in an email that the airline is "currently investigating and working with the FAA to determine what occurred."

The airline has more than 230 daily departures from the airport to more than 70 cities.

Such incidents might be avoided with full implementation of NextGen, the FAA's program for modernizing air traffic control, said Joshua Schank, president of the Eno Center for Transportation, a Washington-based think tank.

The NextGen plans include equipping planes with GPS technology that would continually broadcast their exact positions, not just to air traffic controllers, but to other similarly equipped aircraft within hundreds of miles. Pilots would be able to see on cockpit displays where they are in relation to other planes and what the flight plans are for those other aircraft.

"It might have helped pilots in the air see what might have happened sooner than they did," Schank said.

He said NextGen implementation has been slow because aircraft makers and airlines don't feel assured they'll get a return for investing in the technology.

The airport had another high-profile safety incident in March 2011 when two airliners landed without assistance from the tower. Pilots were unable to raise the lone supervisor on duty at midnight. The supervisor later acknowledged he had fallen asleep. A second controller has since been added to the midnight shift at Reagan National.

In 2010, U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin was aboard a United flight involved in a near-collision at Regan National. He said more should be done to improve the nation's air traffic control policy and safety.

"Only better training and disciplinary action for those who violate the rules will solve the problem," Sensenbrenner said in an email.

Black market Olympics tickets operation stopped

LONDON (AP) ? Britain says it has stopped a black market operation in London Olympics tickets and the buyers of some 20,000 seats will be denied entry to Olympic venues.

Britain's Office of Fair Trading says the Oslo, Norway-based Euroteam was not authorized to sell any Olympic tickets but it did. The agency did not say where the firm got the Olympic tickets ? which were not fakes ? but real tickets would have to come from international sports officials.

Those Olympics tickets are valid only for the original buyer or recipient.

The British consumer protection agency says it got police help to shut down Euroteam's trading websites. It says Euroteam assured a court in London it would give customers "a full refund."

5 Ways Web and Social Media are Important to Your Startup Business

If you?re starting a new?business, there are hundreds of things on your mind. It?s easy to get lost in the details and lose sight of the big picture. However, there is one detail that you do not want to overlook?your web presence. If you want visitors to stumble upon your site and stay, you might want to sign up with a reliable host first. A great source that will lead you to the web hosting company that?s right for you is?best10webhosting, a review site that researches web hosts and what they can offer for you.

You might think that this is something that can come later down the road, perhaps even after you?ve built a customer base. While in the past, this may have been a possible consideration, today more than ever you need to take advantage of the Internet and all it has to offer your start-up. Consider these five ways that the web and social media are the lifeblood of your start-up business.

1. Worldwide Exposure

Depending on your particular company, this may or may not be very important. If you have a product to sell you may be surprised by how many people outside your city, state or even country are interested in purchasing and having the item shipped. It really is a worldwide marketplace; taking advantage of the Internet as a whole, and social media in particular, gives you exposure to customers that would have never found you in the days where printing a catalog was really the only way to reach a customer base outside your zip code.

2. Social Media is Huge

Think social media is all about playing Farmville on Facebook? Consider these?statistics:

  • 20% of all page views on the Internet occur on Facebook
  • There are over 175 million ?tweets? each day.
  • There are over 2 billion YouTube views every day.
  • Pinterest?is the fastest site in the history of the web to break the 10 million unique visitor mark

Keeping these figures in mind, you can see how huge social media is today. If you?re starting a business, you want to harness some of this power for your company, don?t you? Conduct a website review and find ways to engage your current customers and meet new ones and they will keep coming back for more.

3. Getting Your Business Online is Easy

When the web was new, it was not an easy task to put your business online. You had to find server space, write HTML by hand and keep the site regularly updated. Barring that, you were paying a developer to do this for you. Now, nearly anyone can make accounts on the social media sites and easily reach customers.

According to a recent?Business Insider?article, Facebook has recently put in many tools for small businesses, making et easier for them to get online and communicate with customers. Some companies offer pre-installed WordPress which can make building that official site easier than you dreamed.

4. Easy Advertising

They say the best advertising is word of mouth. On the internet, and especially in social media, this can be right at your fingertips. For instance, if you make a post on your Facebook page with a coupon or special deal, there?s a very good chance your customers and fans will share that post with their friends. The viral aspect of social media is very appealing. Conduct a website review and see if you have implemented easy ways for your visitors to share information.

5. Everybody Else is Doing it

About 80 percent of small business owners and execs use social networking and nearly 60 percent use web-related tools as part of a marketing strategy. When you fail to take advantage of these tools, you lag behind the competition and appear weak or out of touch in the eyes of potential customers.

While the old marketing rules still apply, there are more high-tech ways to connect with your customers than ever before. Creating a web presence is not hard, and by making yourself and your business available online, you have a direct connection to your customers at all times?something that was beyond the wildest dreams of business owners a few years ago.

August is just 'round the corner?you know what that means ...

It means summer is into the homestretch. For some, that?s back to school and for others it?s a break from the dog day heat. Whether you?re preemptively nostalgic for the ease of summer or keenly looking forward to autumn?s colors and cooler weather, I think everyone?s thinking the same thing, come August. Savor that last bit of summer.

August is, of course, a huge vacation month. Families across the country are shipping off for road trips, camping adventures, air plane rides to faraway places, or they?re hunkering down for some quality time at home. The team at Designed Good *loves* this special time of hustle-bustle and relaxation because going out and seeing the world is such a great way to connect with people, places, and ideas that are beyond your everyday horizons. At the same time, pausing to reflect on the everyday and soak up what?s special about our lives is also incredible.

Another great thing about last wave summer adventures: you usually bust out the best in design this time of year. Need a tool that helps you eat food, navigate wild expanses, and tune into the radio? Of course you do if you?re camping this August. If you?re staying home this month, you could definitely use a snazzy pen-wifi hotspot-mini speaker to best your family and friends at board games, trivia, and dance-offs, all in one go. This is the season of mist fans, fishing hats, all-terrain shoes, and numerous other charming, prepared-for-anything novelty gear items. Just ask the internet.

On a slightly more serious note, this is a momentous time for Designed Good. We?re really looking forward to August, for a bunch of reasons. As recent college graduates, this fall will be the first time we will *not* return to school since we were 5 or so. As a company, we will go live with our first sales, and as friends will take on this whole grown-up life thing together. So, August is a big transition month, and we?re so excited!

?But it?s not quite here just yet. To make sure we properly savor this beautiful summer, perhaps we?ll kick back and muse on what?s coming and going, where we?re headed and where we?ll linger, and all the silly little things along the way.

Laura Bowers - Shop Talk Tuesday with Terie Garrison!

Happy Tuesday!

Today I'm interviewing the lovely Terie Garrison, who recently celebrated the release of her e-book, CHANGING GEARS, a young adult sports novel on bike racing in San Diego!

Changing-Gears510x765

Winning the race doesn?t equal winning at life.

After receiving a classic racing bike for his birthday, Barry Sloane discovers that he has the makings of a top-notch bike racer. If things work out right, he could even go to the Olympics some day.

Of course, there are other attractions: the young women racers, and particularly Daphne Turner, who can kick Barry?s rear on a bike any day of the week.

Another discovery, though, puts him at odds with his best friend, and soon Barry has to choose between pursuing his Olympic dream and being the kind of friend he always imagined himself to be.

And now that Terie is settled in with her favorite coffeehouse drink, tea--just plain bog-standard tea . . . or Earl Grey if she's feeling spunky . . .

And her favorite snack, potato chips . . .

... Let's begin!?Okay, Terie, what?was your favorite book as a child?

I don?t remember any particular favourites from my pre-teen years, but the book that grabbed me when I was twelve and didn?t let go for a good three or four years was The Outsiders by SE Hinton. I loved that book so much I would often read the last line and turn back to page 1 and start over. Of course, The Outsiders is particularly well-suited to that! For a couple of years, you could?ve opened to any random page and read a few words, and I could quote the rest of the paragraph word-for-word.

When did you decide to be a writer?

When I was in fifth grade, we were taught how to write limericks in an English lesson, then given some time to write one. I wrote three, and the next day, my teacher was showing my limericks to the other fifth-grade teachers. That was the moment I decided I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. After reading The Outsiders for the first time, I decided I wanted to write books for teenagers when I grew up. Which is kind of ironic since technically speaking, I wasn?t a teenager myself yet!

Where?s your favorite place to work? (Bonus if you share a picture!)?

I like to go anywhere that?s not ?home? or ?work?. Here?s a recent photo I took while writing at the Chester Zoo (in Chester UK).

Some other favourites are Alderley Edge,

Stonehenge (yes, really!),

Avebury,

and Castlerigg Stone Circle.

Wow. Absolutely GORGEOUS!! Talk about inspirational places to write. Speaking of which, how were you inspired to write your current release?

I used to be an avid cyclist. I raced as an amateur for a year, but didn?t really like it much. I still rode with a couple of racing clubs and was also involved with ultra-marathon cycling, which I liked better than regular racing. One of the clubs I rode with (the club I actually raced for that one year) was focused on juniors, so I got to spend a lot of time hanging out with teenage bike racers even though I was one of the ?old ladies? in the club. (Ahem, that?s ?old? only relatively speaking!)

Anyway, they say ?write what you know,? and cycling and bike racing was really important to me, so that ended up being the milieu for my first novel. The early drafts were fairly typical first-novelish, and though I got some good rejection letters, the book still needed work. It all seemed to come together when I came up with the idea for Barry, the main point-of-view character, to discover his best friend?s deep dark secret. The interplay of learning how to race and learning how to deal with this secret create a tension in Barry that he has to come to terms with.

If you followed the career path you chose for yourself in high school, what would you be doing for a living now??

I?d be writing novels full time. And even though I?m not, I?m still really lucky: I do have a day job as a writer. I work as a technical writer, writing user documentation for software systems. It?s not glamourous or anything like that, but it means I get to play with words all day long and make a decent salary while I?m at it.

You?ve been locked in a bank vault like the man from Twilight Zone, so you finally have time to read! Your glasses remain unharmed, (whew,) so what?s the first book you crack open??

Oh wow! That?s one of the very few episodes of The Twilight Zone I?ve ever seen! A chill climbs up my back every time I think of it. Of course, my eyesight is really bad and I can?t read without glasses, so it really hits home.

I think I?d pick up the first book in a long series that I?ve never read. Maybe the first in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin, or maybe one by Aliastair Reynolds, Peter Hamilton, or David Weber. I might end up staring for quite some time at all those books trying to decide which one to start first.

For one day, time travel is a reality and you have the opportunity to visit any famous deceased author you want. Who do you pick?

Charles Dickens. What amazing characters that man created! Who better to learn from than a master?

You magically find a $100 bill in your box of cereal. In what frivolous way would you spend it? (Key word: Frivolous.)

Silk yarn. I crochet a lot, and I already have scads of yarn in my stash. I need more like I need three holes in my head. But I?d buy some expensive silk yarn to make a shawl or scarf with.

What?s your favorite quote?

Oh, I have so many! But the one that probably comes out of my mouth the most is from The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien: ?It?s a habit of the old; they tend to speak to the wisest person present.? If you knew how very unwise I can be much of the time, you?d understand the irony of me saying this frequently.

If you could sum up your best advice for new writers in only four words, what would they be?

Write something every day.

Awesome. Thanks so much for stopping by, Terie, and best of luck with CHANGING GEARS!
